Lecture Part 1 Direct Restorative Solution – A MiCD Approach to Life-like Direct Restorations

Learning objective

• An insight to the MiCD Concept & MiCD Treatment protocol

• Value of Direct Resins in MiCD Treatment

• Understanding the Concept of Natural tooth colour, translucency & opalescence

• Easy & Predictable Resin Stratification Techniques

• Replicating Natural Tooth Anatomy

• Simple & Fast Finishing & Polishing protocols

There is an unwarranted tendency to remove unnecessary tooth structure in order to accommodate the esthetic WANTS of the patients. However, smiles can be transformed in a more conservative manner, while attaining the desired esthetics in the best interest of the patient. MiCD is “a holistic approach that integrates minimally invasive treatment techniques with esthetic dentistry to enhance the smile while taking into consideration the psychology, health, function, and esthetics of the patient”.

The MiCD treatment philosophy is geared towards fulfilling the patient’s esthetic demands with minimal loss of vital tissue and should always be considered before planning other more invasive treatment protocols.

In line with the MiCD Concept, a comprehensive analysis of the case, treatment planning and careful clinical procedure will enable the clinician to provide durable, life-like restorations that meet the patient’s expectation every time while insuring healthy tooth tissues for a better long-term prognosis.

Lecture Part 2

Indirect Restorative Solution – The Art of Indirect Veneers

Aesthetic treatment and rehabilitation of the anterior dentition through direct and indirect veneers have been used extensively in restorative dentistry and prosthodontics with proven clinical success. With the development of different materials like zirconium silicate (indirect composite), feldspathic ceramics, lithium disilicate (pressed ceramics), zirconia, Dentists have the choice of selecting the best material for their patients’ esthetic needs. Traditional veneer preparations are now being modified through a minimally invasive approach or extended defect-oriented preparation designs. Choosing the correct material and preparation design when restoring the anterior aesthetic zone is crucial to achieving a conservative and long-lasting treatment.
